RYBAK ADDS SUPPORT OF KEY DULUTH LEADERS IN CAMPAIGN FOR GOVERNOR

Mayor, Council members talk about R.T.’s leadership that delivers real results for people

January 25, 2010 (Duluth, MN)  – With just one week before precinct caucuses, Mayor R.T. Rybak today added the support of key Duluth leaders to his campaign for Governor.

Duluth Mayor Don Ness, City Council President Jeff Anderson, City Councilor at Large Dan Hartman and Second District City Councilor Patrick Boyle each endorsed Rybak’s campaign for Governor, citing his leadership and ability to deliver real results for the people of Minneapolis despite tough economic times.

As Mayor, Ness has worked closely with Rybak on initiatives including property tax relief, jobs and transportation.

"As Governor, R.T. Rybak will restore our faith and pride in Minnesota,” said Mayor Ness.  “Our state desperately needs leadership.  RT has a proven record of hands-on, executive experience delivering real results to the people of Minneapolis.

“As the son of small business owners, RT is focused on solutions instead of excuses and innovation rather than the tired politics of the past.  Above all, RT understands that for cities like Duluth to thrive, we need a Governor who is committed to creating good jobs.  I support R.T. Rybak for Governor because his brand of proven leadership is exactly what Minnesota needs at this point of crisis for our state."

“As local government leaders, we have all worked tirelessly to deliver results for the residents of our cities,” said Rybak.  “But lets face it, it hasn’t been easy in a tough economy and with a governor determined to work against us.”

“Creating jobs and opportunity across our state requires partnerships between local and state, between public and private,” Rybak continued.  “It’s time to reject the politics of pitting cities against cities, rural against urban, Greater Minnesota versus the metro area, with everyone fighting for their piece of a shrinking pie.  These leaders are standing with me today because they know what I stand for – shaking up the same old politics at the Capitol with new ideas and priorities that put people and shared prosperity first.”

Rybak is running for governor to deliver real results for people. As mayor of Minneapolis, he turned the city around — by creating thousands of jobs, starting the Minneapolis Promise to connect kids to jobs and opportunity, lowering crime, and delivering honest, balanced budgets while making important investments in our future.

As Governor, Rybak will continue his strong record of leadership and fiscal responsibility.  Rybak will make job creation job number one.  Raised in a family of small business owners, Rybak will focus on fostering entrepreneurship and creating homegrown, good-paying jobs.

Today’s endorsements build critical momentum heading into next week’s precinct caucuses.  Recent polls have shown Rybak as a frontrunner for the DFL nomination.

These endorsements also come from the very city where the convention will be held April 23-25 at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC).  Rybak is seeking and abiding by the DFL party endorsement.
